The Importance of a Healthy Smile
It’s crucial for all your teeth to be healthy because each has a specific job to do. Losing the function of just one tooth leads to discomfort, wearing, and even possible breakage and fracturing.
Well-made dental crowns and bridges in Manchester, NH restore your smile to full health and allow you to eat, speak, and smile again with confidence.
How We Use Dental Crowns
In its early stages, we can usually treat dental decay with a tooth-colored filling. However, if decay isn’t treated, it will advance and damage the tooth to the point where a filling isn’t sufficient. In this case, Dr. Chris Moriarty will recommend a dental crown to protect and strengthen the tooth and restore function.
A dental crown surrounds and protects your tooth like a little helmet. Custom crowns at our Manchester, NH dental office are made of natural-looking porcelain that blends in seamlessly with the appearance of surrounding teeth.
Dental crowns are versatile, so there are many ways we can use them:
- Add strength to a tooth damaged by decay, infection, or trauma
- Restore a dental implant by adding function and improving appearance
- Protect and strengthen a tooth after root canal therapy
- Improve the aesthetics of a tooth by altering its appearance
Placing Your Dental Crown on Your Tooth
The process for placing a new crown typically requires two to three visits to North End Dental Care. During the first visit, Dr. Moriarty removes some enamel from your tooth, so the crown fits naturally against your gum line.
Next, we take impressions that Dr. Moriarty uses to create a model of your tooth that a custom dental lab uses to prepare your crown. We’ll choose the shade of white that most closely matches surrounding teeth and send the specifications and model off to the lab that custom crafts your new restoration.
In about two weeks, we will have you return to our Manchester dental office to place your new crown. Dr. Moriarty will adjust the crown to accommodate your dental bite, and the final steps are to polish it and cement the restoration in place.
Dental Bridges Replace Missing Teeth
A dental bridge completes your smile by filling the space left by a missing tooth. An artificial tooth sits in the open space and is secured to adjacent teeth with dental crowns. The result is a seamless appearance that restores your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently again.
